To see if the Town will go on record in support of effective actions by the President and the Congress to address the issue of climate change which is increasingly harmful to the environment and economy of New Hampshire and to the future well being of the people of Temple. These actions include:

• Establishment of a national program requiring reductions of U.S. greenhouse gas emissions while protecting the U.S. economy.
• Creation of a major national research initiative to foster rapid development of sustainable energy technologies thereby stimulating new jobs and investment.

In addition, the town of Temple encourages New Hampshire citizens to work for emission reductions within their communities, and we ask our Selectmen to consider the appointment of a voluntary energy committee to recommend local steps to save energy and reduce emissions. To see if the Town will vote to endorse the creation by the Congress of a United States Department of Peace and by this vote instruct our elected Congressional representatives to vote in favor of establishing the department as introduced in bill #808 before the House of Representatives. Within the United States, the Department of Peace will develop policies and allocate resources designed to reduce the levels of domestic and gang violence, child abuse, and other forms of societal discord. Internationally, the Department will advise the President and Congress on practical ways to prevent and mediate domestic and international violence, and would offer skills such as conflict resolution for working with adversarial factions. In addition, it would actively support the military by providing background information and practical skills and training in support of civilian peacekeepers. The bill to create the Department of Peace has widespread Congressional support, with 50 co-sponsors in the House of Representatives.
