Good Roads Day 2005
|
More than 100 participants made Temple's Good Roads Day a super success.
The day of the event, Saturday, April 16th, was sunny and warm, without any insect
distractions.
Nearly all Temple roadsides were cleaned, some during the week leading up to the event, most on the actual day, and a few left to be done by assignment after the fact. An entire truckload of recyclables was sorted by a hardy team of individuals…and an overflowing dumpster along with several trips to the recycling center by other participants indicated the vast amount of material that was removed from our roadsides. In addition to roadside litter pickup, the following areas were raked, weeded, and picked up: ball field and playground area, bird sanctuary and School House #6 area, center village buildings and town Common area, and the Weston Conservation Land area. Volunteer workers were spread thin to tackle so many tasks, but everyone worked extremely hard, and we completed most of the projects on the day of the event. Niki and Steve McGettigan and the families of the Temple Elementary School provided an outstanding lunch for approximately 65 hungry workers. The Congregational Church of Temple provided the space and facilities for the project meeting and lunch. The Ladies Aid Society provided morning coffee and financial support, while the Souhegan Lions Club, Temple Drama Club, Temple Historical Society, Village Green Committee, Temple Recreation Commission, and Temple Conservation Commission all provided workers and/or financial support. Several individuals also contributed to the cost of the food, drinks, and the general supplies. Water was generously donated by Monadnock Spring Water. The people of Temple are devoted, hardworking, and generous in spirit and they know how to get the job done. Thanks to all participants and sponsors for a wonderfully productive and fun way to celebrate our town and the coming of spring.
